Understanding CNC Cutting Machines and How it Works

Posted by Eng. Abdel Karim on

In a manufacturing company, products are manufactured in thousands of units. The product could be anything like some spare parts, components, or a device. For instance, a construction company has to produce a segment for specific construction, and all the units have to be the same size, not a single difference is accepted here. To quench this requirement, the production of CNC cutting machines took place. CNC machines can manufacture thousands of units with high accuracy in exact weight and size from every aspect. Industries that require manufacturing of the same product in large numbers set up a CNC machine in their factory. Accuracy is the main requirement, which is now possible in CNC technology with cutting tools.

Many wonder what exactly a CNC machine is. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control, which makes use of computer systems and software programs to automate machinery that includes advanced and sophisticated operations. Machines have reduced the work of human and CNC cutting machines too have cut down the number of personnel to do the required job. Moreover, the technology used in the device is relatively simple to understand and operate. It gives an excellent opportunity to employ a less skilled worker for less remuneration to operate the machine while other machines required highly technical staff to carry out the process.

How does a CNC machine work?

The work of the CNC machine is based entirely on CAD and CAM programs and computer controls. The CAD (Computer-Aided Design) increases the productivity of the designer by improving the design quality, documenting communications, and creating database manufacturing. CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) has codes like G-code and M-code. Programs are written on the code and fed in the machine to perform numerous operations.

Types of CNC machines

1. Laser CNC cutting machine

Laser cutting off machine carries out the operation through laser. The code is fed on the computer, and it runs automatically. Primarily this machine is used for cutting thin sheets that require much precision.

2. CNC plasma cutting machine

Plasma cutting machines are suitable to cut sheets that are thick with 3 to 4 inches. It is most appropriate to cut metals like stainless steel, aluminum, metal alloys, etc. plasma is useful to cut 2D shapes that do not require high precision.

3. CNC Water jet Cutting

Water jet machines work with a high-pressure jet of water or with a mixture of water and abrasive. It can cut materials from wood to steel without producing smoke.

Final words

Among many types of engineering machines for sale, CNC cutting machines are effortless to set up and can start their program from day one of the setups.
